In Short: Who Are the Top Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Consultants in South Africa?
If you are evaluating Microsoft Fabric or Power BI consultants in South Africa in 2026, the practical answer is that the local market is small but real, and the right partner depends heavily on what you actually need.
Some firms are full-stack data consultancies covering the entire Microsoft data and AI stack. Others are Power BI specialists. A few are broader IT services groups with strong BI practices inside them. The differences between them matter, and the wrong choice usually shows up six months in, not on day one.
This article lists eight South African consultancies worth considering, with honest assessments of where each one fits. We are one of those eight. We have listed ourselves at the top because this is our article. We have also tried to describe the others accurately, because nobody benefits from a list where the framing is dishonest.
How We Chose the List
Three criteria shaped the list.
1. South African presence. Every firm on this list has consultants based in South Africa and bills in ZAR. Offshore vendors with a sales office in Sandton did not qualify.
2. Active Microsoft Fabric or Power BI work. Every firm has visible Power BI work and at least credible positioning on Microsoft Fabric. We excluded firms whose data practice is dominated by other platforms (Qlik-first, Tableau-first, or SAP BW shops, unless they also have a strong Microsoft practice).
3. Verifiable track record. Every firm has been operating long enough, and visibly enough, to assess. New entrants without published work were left out.
This is not a ranking. The order after position one is roughly by breadth of full-stack data and AI capability. Position one is us, for reasons stated above.
The List
1. Solv. Systems
Headquarters: Gqeberha, with consultants delivering across Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban
Best fit: Mid-market and enterprise organisations adopting Microsoft Fabric, modernising Power BI, or building AI on top of governed data
Solv. Systems is a specialist Microsoft data and AI consultancy. The full stack is what we do: Fabric foundations, Power BI on top, AI integration through Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Foundry, and custom Claude and Anthropic API solutions where appropriate.
The Imperative engagement is a representative example of how we work. A South African enterprise client moved from a fragmented Power BI estate to a unified Microsoft Fabric platform, with a medallion architecture underneath and Power BI semantic models on top, delivered to scope and within the agreed commercial envelope.
We work through three commercial models: fixed-bid for clearly scoped projects, staff augmentation for clients who need senior capability inside their team, and Data Insights as a Service for ongoing analytics and AI support. Our team holds current Microsoft certifications across Fabric (DP-600, DP-700), Power BI (PL-300), and Azure data services (DP-203).
If your estate is Microsoft-centric, your roadmap involves Fabric or serious Power BI work, and you want a partner who has built real production AI on top of the platform, this is our lane. You can read more about our South African practice on our Microsoft Fabric consultant South Africa page.
2. Data Active
Headquarters: Cape Town, with offices and consultants across Johannesburg, Durban, George, and the UK
Best fit: Mid-market and enterprise clients with substantial SAP estates or multi-platform BI portfolios
Data Active is one of the oldest and most established BI consultancies in South Africa. They cover Power BI and Qlik in roughly equal weight, and they have particularly deep SAP integration experience. The team has been at the forefront of BI delivery in the country for a long time and has done meaningful work on Power BI to Fabric migrations.
The strength here is breadth and tenure. If your environment is multi-platform, includes significant SAP, or needs a partner who can move you between visualisation tools, Data Active is a serious option. The flip side is that the breadth comes at the cost of pure Microsoft specialism.
3. DVT
Headquarters: Johannesburg, with offices in Cape Town, Durban, and internationally across the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Kenya, and the UAE
Best fit: Enterprise clients who want a single supplier covering BI, broader analytics, custom development, and IT services
DVT is a Microsoft-certified Gold Partner in Data Analytics with a substantial BI practice inside a much larger IT services business. They are over 600 staff globally, with the resources to staff large programmes and the international footprint that some enterprise clients require.
The strength of DVT is scale. If you need a partner who can bring a team of twenty consultants on day one and supplement them with custom development, mobile, or other capabilities from the same firm, DVT can do that. The trade-off is that BI is one practice inside a much broader business, which can mean less concentrated specialism than a focused boutique.
4. PBT Group
Headquarters: South Africa, with extensive delivery experience across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe
Best fit: Large enterprise clients with complex, multi-country data estates, particularly in financial services, telecommunications, and healthcare
PBT Group is one of the oldest data consultancies in South Africa, with 25 years of operating history and delivery experience across 27 countries. The practice covers the full data lifecycle and is genuinely cloud-agnostic, supporting Microsoft, AWS, and Google Cloud platforms. They have particularly strong references in banking and telco.
The strength is depth and operating maturity. If your data programme is large, multi-country, and likely to span more than one cloud, PBT Group is built for that scale. The trade-off is that their lane is mainly enterprise, and mid-market clients sometimes find the engagement model heavier than they need.
5. Cobalt Analytics
Headquarters: South Africa, with delivery across the country
Best fit: Clients who need world-class Microsoft data platform training, certification preparation, or expert deep-dive consulting
Cobalt Analytics is a unique entry in the South African market. The team includes Microsoft Data Platform MVPs and a Microsoft Certified Master in SQL Server, a title held by only a handful of professionals worldwide. They have spoken at major international conferences including PASS Summit, SQLBits, and the Microsoft Fabric Community Conference.
The natural lane for Cobalt is training and expert consulting, where the depth of expertise matters more than the size of the team. If your internal data team needs world-class Power BI, SQL Server, or Microsoft Fabric training, or you have a hard technical problem that benefits from genuine specialist depth, Cobalt is one of the strongest options in the country.
6. Strategix
Headquarters: South Africa, with teams in the UK and the US
Best fit: Organisations running, or moving to, Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP who need Power BI integrated with their financial and operational systems
Strategix is a Microsoft Solutions Partner with deep expertise in Dynamics 365 ERP and Financial Management. Power BI is part of their offering, but their distinctive angle is the integration between Dynamics and BI. They build dashboards and analytics that pull directly from the Dynamics estate.
If your data conversation starts with "we are implementing or modernising Dynamics 365 and we need analytics on top of it", Strategix is built for that. For clients without a Dynamics estate, the case for Strategix as a primary BI partner is weaker.
7. Preact Analytics
Headquarters: Cape Town, with delivery in Durban and across South Africa
Best fit: Mid-market clients who want a single partner covering Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate together
Preact Analytics is a Power Platform specialist. They cover the full Power Platform stack (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate) rather than specialising specifically in BI or in Fabric. This breadth is useful for clients whose data work sits inside a broader Power Platform programme, including custom app development and workflow automation alongside the reporting layer.
If your project is "build a Power App that captures the data, automate the workflow with Power Automate, and report on it in Power BI", Preact is well-suited for that.
8. Nimble Learn
Headquarters: South Africa, with international clients
Best fit: Mid-market clients who want flexible project delivery alongside their in-house data team, with quality processes audited externally
Nimble Learn is an ISO 9001:2015 certified Microsoft data platform consultancy covering Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and broader Azure data services. The certification matters for clients in regulated environments where formal quality management documentation is part of the procurement process. They emphasise flexible engagement and working alongside in-house teams rather than replacing them.
If your procurement process requires ISO-certified suppliers, or you want a partner whose delivery model is explicitly designed to augment your existing team, Nimble Learn fits that brief.
How to Choose Between Them
The honest answer to "which one of these should I pick" depends on three things.
1. What is the actual scope of the work? A Power BI refresh inside a Dynamics 365 environment is a different engagement from a full Microsoft Fabric migration from a legacy data warehouse. The firm that wins one is rarely the firm that should win the other. Match the firm's lane to your actual scope.
2. How important is specialist depth versus breadth? A boutique with five Fabric-certified consultants delivers a Fabric project differently from a 600-person services firm where Fabric is one practice among many. Neither is universally better. The right answer depends on whether you need depth, breadth, or scale.
3. What is the commercial shape you want? Some firms only do fixed-bid. Some only do time and materials. Some do staff augmentation. Some do managed services. The right commercial model for your project is sometimes a stronger filter than the technical capability conversation.
If you cannot tell which firm fits which of those filters from their website, ask. The firms that answer clearly are the firms that will engage clearly. The ones that hedge are signalling something.
What Most South African Buyers Miss
The South African Microsoft data consultancy market is small enough that the firms know each other. We refer work to each other when it fits. Data Active will sometimes refer a Fabric-heavy project to us. We will sometimes refer a SAP-heavy project to them. Buyers who treat the choice as adversarial often miss the value of asking a specialist firm whether the project is actually the right shape for them.
The other strategic point is that the gap between the best and worst delivery on a Power BI or Fabric project in South Africa is enormous. The same project, delivered by two different firms, can produce wildly different outcomes for the same budget. The wrong choice usually shows up six months in, in the form of a platform that technically works but does not produce the business value the project was meant to deliver.
Time spent on partner selection is rarely wasted. The firms on this list will all give you an honest read on whether the work fits their lane. Use that.
Why Work With Solv. Systems
At Solv. Systems, we are a specialist Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and AI consultancy based in South Africa. We have positioned the firm for the work we do best.
Specialist depth, not general capability. We focus on the Microsoft data and AI stack. We do not split our attention across multiple BI platforms or unrelated services. This concentration is reflected in the depth of our certifications and the productisation of our own internal tooling.
Senior-led delivery. Every engagement is led by a senior consultant who is present in the work, not selling it and handing off. Our delivery model is built around this principle.
Real AI capability. We have shipped production AI on Microsoft Fabric, including custom Claude and Anthropic API integrations, Copilot Studio agent deployments, and Microsoft Foundry-based agentic workflows. This is not a slide in a deck. It is engagements we have delivered and can reference.
Local presence, international standard. We deliver across South Africa from Gqeberha, with consultants reaching Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. We also deliver into the UK, US, and Australian markets, which means our standards are calibrated to international quality, delivered at South African commercial terms.
