In Short: What Solv's Digital & App Innovation Designation Means

Solv Systems is now a Microsoft Solutions Partner for Digital & App Innovation (Azure), one of the three Azure pathways behind Microsoft's Solutions Partner for Cloud & AI Platforms badge. It is earned on Microsoft's partner capability score, which measures certified people, customer growth and real Azure usage, and needs at least 70 of 100 points with points in every metric. For a data and AI consultancy, this is the pathway that covers what sits on top of the data platform: apps, automations, embedded analytics portals, and Copilot and agent solutions.

We are proud of this one. Digital & App Innovation is not where people usually expect a Power BI and Fabric firm to qualify, and it took our consultants earning developer and DevOps certifications alongside full client workloads. It is one of three pathways we qualified for this week, each scored separately - the full story is in our Microsoft Solutions Partner for Cloud & AI Platforms announcement.

    Key facts:

    • Pathway: Digital & App Innovation (Azure), one of 3 Azure pathways that earn the Cloud & AI Platforms badge
    • Threshold: at least 70 of 100 points on the partner capability score, with points in every metric
    • Skilling: up to 20 points for intermediate certifications and 20 for advanced certifications, on top of Azure Administrator and Azure Solutions Architect Expert prerequisites
    • Solv: qualified in all 3 pathways separately - Data & AI, Digital & App Innovation and Infrastructure

What Is the Microsoft Solutions Partner Digital & App Innovation Designation?

The Microsoft Solutions Partner Digital & App Innovation (Azure) designation is a Microsoft partner designation for organisations that build and modernise applications on Azure. Since August 2026 it rolls up, with Data & AI (Azure) and Infrastructure (Azure), into the customer-facing Solutions Partner for Cloud & AI Platforms badge. Microsoft is clear that the underlying designations are unchanged: each pathway is still scored and earned on its own, and qualifying in any one earns the badge.

Microsoft does not publish a separate workload list for each Azure pathway. All three count every Azure service towards their performance and customer success metrics. What makes Digital & App Innovation distinct is the certifications it rewards - Azure development, AI app development, Power Platform development, DevOps and GitHub. In practice, that points to:

    • Building and modernising applications on Azure
    • AI applications and agents built on Azure services
    • DevOps and GitHub practices, including GitHub Copilot and GitHub Actions
    • Pro-code Power Platform development that extends low-code apps and automations

It is a designation, not a certification. Individuals earn certifications; companies earn designations, partly by employing enough certified people.

What Are the Digital & App Innovation (Azure) Requirements?

Microsoft scores the pathway out of 100 points across five metrics. A partner needs at least 70 points and at least one point in every metric, on any day within the qualification window:

    • Net customer adds (up to 30 points): growth in the number of customers with qualifying Azure consumption, compared with the same month a year earlier
    • Intermediate certifications (up to 20 points): certified people with the right associate-level credentials
    • Advanced certifications (up to 20 points): certified people with the right expert or advanced credentials
    • Usage growth (up to 20 points): year-on-year growth in customers' Azure consumption over a trailing 12 months
    • Deployments (up to 10 points): the number of distinct Azure services customers are using, with Virtual Machines excluded

The data comes from Partner Center, not from a partner's own claims. Microsoft describes a designation as "a validated signal of capability which is recognized by customers and Microsoft sellers". It is not an endorsement or a guarantee of any partner's work, and Microsoft says so.

Which Certifications Count for Digital & App Innovation?

The skilling metrics sit on top of two prerequisites: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) for the intermediate metric and Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) for the advanced one. Only once those are in place do the following certifications add points.

    Intermediate certifications

    • Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204) - retired on 31 July 2026, but still counts for one year if earned before retirement
    • Azure AI Cloud Developer Associate (AI-200) - the replacement for AZ-204, available since July 2026
    • Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400)
    • GitHub Certified: Agentic AI Developer (GH-600) - added in July 2026

    Advanced certifications

    • DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400)
    • Power Platform Solution Architect Expert (PL-600) - retired on 30 June 2026, eligible for one year after
    • GitHub Administration (GH-100), GitHub Actions (GH-200), GitHub Copilot (GH-300) and GitHub Advanced Security (GH-500)

The list says a lot about where Microsoft sees application development going. AI-200 replacing AZ-204, and GitHub's agentic AI and Copilot certifications counting towards the score, put AI apps and agents at the centre of the pathway rather than at its edge. Fundamentals certifications such as AZ-900 do not count.

How Hard Is It to Become a Digital & App Innovation Partner?

It is a demanding bar, and harder in some ways than it first appears. The skilling requirements need both depth and breadth: Azure administrators and solution architects as a foundation, then developers and DevOps or GitHub specialists on top. A team of data specialists alone will not score here.

The customer metrics are harder still to fake. Net customer adds, usage growth and deployments all depend on real customers running real Azure workloads, measured over 12 months. Microsoft does not publish how many partners hold the designation, so we will not guess at a number. What we can say is that it rewards sustained delivery, not a burst of exam-taking.

Why Digital & App Innovation Matters for a Data & AI Consultancy

Most of our work starts with data: Microsoft Fabric platforms, Power BI and governance. But the value usually lands in what gets built on top - the app a field team uses, the automation that removes a manual step, the portal an external stakeholder logs into, the agent that answers a question in plain English. That layer is what this pathway recognises.

Two of our published case studies show it in practice:

The same thinking runs through our automation and AI, Microsoft Power Platform and automation and integration work. When we choose between Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry for an agent, or between Power Automate and Logic Apps for an integration, the question is the same: what will a developer team be able to run, secure and change in two years' time?

    What It Means for Clients

For clients, the designation is a straightforward signal: Microsoft has measured our people, our customer growth and our customers' Azure usage against a published framework, and we met it for application and AI development as well as for data.

    In practical terms:

    • Certified developers and architects. The certifications behind the score were earned by our consultants, covering Azure, Power Platform, DevOps and GitHub.
    • One partner from data to app. The team that builds your Fabric lakehouse can also build the app, automation or agent that uses it, with consistent security and DevOps practices.
    • Direct Microsoft channels. Designated partners get access to Microsoft technical advisory and partner support, which helps when a problem needs escalating. This is support for us as a partner, not a Microsoft service level for clients.
    • Programmes, case by case. Designated partners can work with Microsoft on programmes where a client is eligible. Eligibility depends on the programme and the client, so we check it for each engagement rather than promise it.

You can confirm any partner's designations in the Microsoft Marketplace partner directory.

What It Means for Solv, and What Comes Next

For us, it confirms that the app and AI side of the business has grown into a practice in its own right. It also opens the next step. A Solutions Partner designation is the prerequisite for Microsoft's specializations, which add a third-party audit and stricter, workload-specific requirements. The Azure specializations closest to this pathway are AI Apps on Microsoft Azure, App Modernization on Microsoft Azure and Agentic DevOps with Microsoft Azure and GitHub. We are looking at which of these fits our client work best, and will share progress when there is something to report.

This post is one of four. Read the overall Cloud & AI Platforms announcement, and the companion posts on the Data & AI and Infrastructure pathways.

Intermediate: Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204, retired 31 July 2026 but counted for a year if earned before), Azure AI Cloud Developer Associate (AI-200), Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400) and GitHub Certified: Agentic AI Developer (GH-600). Advanced: DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400), Power Platform Solution Architect Expert (PL-600, retired 30 June 2026 with a one-year grace period) and GitHub Administration, Actions, Copilot and Advanced Security (GH-100, GH-200, GH-300, GH-500).

Solutions Partner for Cloud & AI Platforms is Microsoft's customer-facing badge, introduced in summer 2026. It rolls up three separately scored Azure pathways: Data & AI, Digital & App Innovation and Infrastructure. Qualifying in any one earns the badge. Solv Systems qualified in all three pathways separately.

Because the value of a data platform usually lands in what is built on top of it: apps, automations, embedded analytics portals and Copilot or agent solutions. Solv Systems builds Microsoft Fabric and Power BI platforms and the Power Platform apps, integrations and AI agents that use them, so the developer, DevOps and GitHub skills this pathway measures are part of everyday delivery.

No. Microsoft describes a Solutions Partner designation as a validated signal of capability, measured from Partner Center data on certified people, customer growth and Azure usage. Microsoft states that it is not an endorsement, guarantee or warranty of a partner's work, and the choice of partner rests with the customer.

Search for the partner in the Microsoft Marketplace partner directory, where Solutions Partner badges appear on business profiles. You can also ask the partner for the certified letter Microsoft provides through Logo Builder in Partner Center.
