Three systems, different numbers, and no agreement on value
Finance lived in Business Central, which had recently replaced Pastel. Operations lived in ConnectWise, reported through MSP Bots, which only saw ConnectWise data and wasn't fully trusted. Budgets and mappings sat in spreadsheets on SharePoint. People pulled numbers at different times, no two reports agreed, and service level figures didn't reflect the value the business actually delivered to its clients.
Build the foundation once, then deliver one model at a time
We built a Bronze, Silver and Gold lakehouse on the business's own Fabric capacity, fed all three sources into it on a schedule, and then delivered the semantic models one by one, each reconciled and signed off before the next began.
Every source through its API
Business Central through its v2.0 API and ConnectWise through its REST API, both on a daily schedule. MSP Bots is no longer needed for reporting.
Spreadsheets without code
Budgets and mapping tables stay in Excel on SharePoint. A control-table entry brings any new sheet into the lakehouse, so the team maintains its own reference data.
Cleaned once, used everywhere
The Silver layer types, de-duplicates and conforms the data and turns codes into readable descriptions, so a client means the same thing in finance and operations.
Six models, one foundation
Finance, service desk, projects, time and billing, agreements and the sales pipeline share one set of dimensions and time intelligence built in a shared Gold foundation.
Service levels that show value
The service desk model reviews how SLAs are measured, and the time and billing model links logged hours to agreements, so the business can show clients the value it delivers.
Reporting without a licence for everyone
A proof of concept shows the models to viewers without a Power BI Pro licence each, alongside Analyze in Excel and SQL access for other tools.
Where the data lives and how it flows
Finance, recently moved from Pastel, read through the Business Central v2.0 API on a daily schedule
What changed
Finance and operations now report from the same reconciled data on the same schedule, so meetings start from one set of numbers instead of a debate about whose figure is right.
The platform runs on the business's own tenant and capacity, and adding a new source or spreadsheet is a configuration change rather than a new project.
