A legacy stack the business had outgrown
The company's data platform ran on SQL Server, SSIS packages and SSAS cubes, feeding a large Power BI estate. The target architecture for Microsoft Fabric was already designed, but the in-house team needed experienced Fabric engineers to deliver it alongside day-to-day work, without losing the business logic only they understood.
Embed Fabric specialists next to the people who know the logic
We placed a Fabric data engineer and an analytical consultant into the client's team. The in-house lead kept ownership of the business logic, while our specialists delivered the Fabric build: three months of migration, then three months of stabilisation, optimisation and decommissioning.
Data in by mirroring and pipelines
Sources were brought into Fabric through mirroring, pipelines and custom connectors, including MySQL, replacing the SSIS packages.
Medallion lakehouse
A metadata-driven Bronze, Silver and Gold architecture replaced the old staging and warehouse layers.
Models and reports moved
SSAS models were rebuilt as Direct Lake or Import semantic models, and the Power BI reports were migrated and tuned.
Every number checked
Data validation and lineage checks compared Fabric against the legacy platform before anything was switched over, with user acceptance testing on top.
Proper delivery pipeline
CI/CD through Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, with separate Dev and Prod environments, so changes ship safely.
Knowledge stays in-house
The client's own team kept the business logic and IP throughout, and our engineers focused purely on Fabric delivery.
Where the data lives and how it flows
Legacy databases, integration packages and cubes, plus MySQL sources, migrated and then decommissioned
What changed
The company now runs its data platform and reporting on Microsoft Fabric, with the legacy SQL, SSIS and SSAS components decommissioned.
Because the in-house team kept the business logic while our engineers delivered the build, the knowledge stayed in the business and the platform is theirs to run.
